Anapana Publications in Tehran has recently published a new film script titled ‘Pourya-Ye Vali’ by Iranian screenwriter and filmmaker Masoud Jafari-Jozani.
The film script, printed in 680 pages, is based on the life of Pahlevan Mahmoud Kharazmi, known as Pourya-ye Vali, an Iranian wrestling champion who passed away in 1322.
He was famous for his chivalrous behavior and strength, and is still an exemplary figure in Zourkhaneh (traditional Persian gym).
Kharazmi also wrote a book titled ‘Kanz ol-Haqayeq’ (literally meaning the treasure of facts) in Persian. The book contains verses from him which is still sung in Zourkhaneh.
Born in 1948, Jafari-Jozani is an Iranian director and screenwriter who travelled to the US to continue his academic studies. He is a San Francisco State University graduate in filmmaking.
Jafari-Jozani began his cinematic career as a script writer and director of short films. In 1985, he made his first feature film ‘The Cold Roads’.
Since then he has written, directed and produced several movies, including ‘In the Storm's Path’, ‘One Man, One Bear’, ‘Puberty’, and ‘Iran Burger’.
Jafari-Jozani directed the series ‘In the Eye of the Storm’, aired by ifilm, which depicts the last few decades in modern Iranian history before and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
